The Overseas Development Institute (ODI) is the UK’s leading independent think tank on international development and humanitarian issues. ODI produce a lot of research reports and they were finding it difficult to produce reports with consistent use of fonts, logos and colours. Staff found their existing templates difficult to use. We developed some Word report templates, PowerPoint templates and an Excel Charts template for them.
Custom ribbon tab
The template includes a custom ribbon tab with buttons to apply the ODI house style to a selected graph and to set the width of a graph so it fits nicely on the page of a Word report.
Graph formats
Users create a graph in Excel using Excel’s standard graph functions. They then select the chart and choose a chart type from the custom ribbon tab. Some charts also have different options of where to position the legend. The chart is instantly formatted in ODI’s house style.
Graph size
To ensure the chart is the correct size for their Word reports, they can select a width option from the Set Width drop-down button. This will instantly resize the graph so it will span across either one column or two columns of a page in a Word report.
